Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica, Bringing DivX to Android

South Korea based Samsung has officially announced Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica are speculative rumor mill buzzing on the internet as a Galaxy Lite before posting.

Samsung is entitled to the "Lite" branding as i5700 has better specifications than the earlier Galaxy i7500 smartphone. This is Samsung's second Android phone targeted specifically to European markets (4th in the world). After what seems like a continuous demand in the market, users can now watch DivX movies on the handset, which is the first android to run DivX.

Samsung already made a divx its flagship Omnia HD (8900), Ultra Touch (S8300) and BEAT DJ (M7600) in recognition of its excellent high-quality glossy compression codec that is now a prominent place in the rip HD discs and stored in MKV files for both home and mobile viewing. Not all mobile phones carry features such as DivX and still require certification and licensing for any device to get it playing a codec. Android phone users, however, you can still get a DivX from third-party applications such as vxflash player from MobileSoft.

This requires certification and licensing the device to run DivX, but it also figures as one of the many codecs that are commonly used for copying disks in hard drives for transcoding in smaller files.

From a generous 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery, Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica gets up to 11.5 hours talk time and 27 days of standby time on one charge - one of the best amongst touchscreen cell phone.
