Editorial - Android, the Beginning of a New Era of Mobile Operating Systems

In the first Windows Mobile OS and Palm OS ruled the Earth. One day, Apple iPhone OS began to dominate the market. Today, a new competitor has climbed into the ring, Google Android. Google is slowly taking the world they are using our search engine, and we loved him. They have over our youth and we loved it. Now they take our cell phones, and I will love him, but not today.

Currently the only official Android compatible phone T-Mobile G1, which has already demonstrated the Android operating system has a lot of potential because it is open source. I've been seeing a lot of programs for the Android platform, but the iPhone is much more interesting program. I see the program hit the iPhone first, and then reached a similar program for free. This is a great idea to let people develop applications on their own, not to mention it creates a very cheap market where you can get the most out of their programs for free. I have downloaded many programs, but there are so many more customization, which can be had, we just have not seen yet. One thing I personally wait, the issue today, as well as BlackBerry and Windows Mobile home screen, which displays its daily tasks, messages and e-mail.

I would like to see an onscreen keyboard that trumps the iPhone. There are several on the market right now, but they are not great, and you can only use them when you text messages, they do not work in the calendar or e-mail. This is something Android developers must work feverishly, because the proposed T-Mobile G2 has no physical keyboard, but it will port over nicely to the G1? Only time will tell. I will love Android OS one day, but not yet.

I love how no one, not two, but three computers, which need so much space? I need all that space! It allows me to get my icons and application shortcuts in a rapidly accessible place with only steal from the fingers, no more digging through the program menu. One thing I would like to see a seamless slide from one screen to another. Currently the Android lock screen on one desktop, and then another and another.

Another thing that bothers me about the Android system is not able to install applications on SD card, the software will be installed on the phone and as you know the G1 does not have infinite memory. It would be nice to install and run programs from the SD card, just like Windows Mobile. Of course the iPhone does not have this problem because it has a lot of onboard memory and no expansion slots.

Android operating system is great, probably better than Windows Mobile and iPhone OS, but has much more potential to become even better and completely take over our phones. I only have a simple complaints about Android, it's nothing big, but with such a strong and dynamic operating system, I am disappointed it was not mind blowing. I expect more, expect more, and I think that Android will offer everything and anything you can imagine in future revisions, but still.
